Discrimination may occur in many different ways, openly or covertly, directly or indirectly.
Many people tend to think that discrimination mostly occurs in an open, overt way. However, discrimination can be manifested in many different ways. The most common types of discrimination are direct and indirect discrimination, harassment, instruction to discriminate, victimisation and failure to provide reasonable accommodation.
It is important to know the ways in which discrimination may occur in order to evaluate whether you or someone else has been discriminated against. Sometimes different treatment in a similar or nearly identical situation, however, is not discrimination when it is based on certain characteristics.
